About
In 1998 a movie version of the musical CATS was released. It starred Elaine Paige, John Mills and Ken Page. The cast was formed by actors who were at the time, performing or had performed in different productions of the show.
The video production has a few changes.
- The songs Gumbie Cat, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer and Magical Mr. Mistoffelees had a few paragraphs removed to keep the duration of the movie under 2 hours.
- Also the song Growltiger's Last Stand doesn't appear in this movie. Tony Timberlake, who played Asparagus, was supposed to be the young version of Gus the Theatre Cat, played by Sir John Mills. They meant to include the song Growltiger's Last Stand in which Tony Timberlake was to do all the dance since Sir John Mills was too old to perform, but in the end they ran out of time and didn't film it.
- The character Exotica was created for Femi Taylor. They had already chosen Kaye Brown to play Tantomile, the character Femi had played in the original London cast, but they wanted her to be in the video anyway so they created this character for her.
